On Monday, July 8, the governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, has proclaimed it a public holiday in observance of the first day of the new Islamic calendar, which is 1st Muharram 1446AH.
The state’s Commissioner for Establishment, Auwal-Dogondaji, revealed this to reporters in the state capital of Birnin Kebbi on Friday.
He claims that since the first of Muharram falls on July 7, the administration has chosen to move the official holiday from July 7 to July 8 in honor of the Islamic new year.
With the introduction of the new Islamic calendar, Manu-Dogondaji commended the Muslim Ummah and urged the faithful to continue their earnest prayers for the peace, security, and prosperity of Kebbi and the country at large.
“I extend the congratulation of the governor to the entire Muslim Ummah across the globe,” the commissioner said.
