Nigeria’s Super Falcons made a colourful entrance into Rabat, Morocco, on Saturday, arriving in coordinated green-and-white Adire outfits with matching gele as they set their sights on lifting a record 11th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) trophy.
The players also took time to celebrate the moment online, posting photos and videos of themselves in the traditional attire.
Esther Okoronkwo, Jennifer Echegini and Michelle Alozie teamed up for a fun video inspired by “Rich Aunty Vibes,” while goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie entertained supporters with funny clips and playful poses. Tosin Demehin and Folashade Ijamilusi also joined their teammates in sharing moments from the team’s arrival.
The squad travelled to Rabat after completing a 10-day preparation camp in Casablanca, where coach Justine Madugu used the period to sharpen tactics and get the players ready for the competition.
Nigeria rounded off their build-up with a 2-1 win over Tanzania in a friendly match on Thursday, giving the team added confidence before the start of the tournament.
The Falcons, who have won the continental title more than any other nation, will kick off their Group C fixtures against Malawi on Tuesday at Al Madina Stadium in Rabat. They will return to the same venue to face Zambia on Saturday, August 1, before taking on Egypt at the Olympic Stadium on Wednesday, August 5, in their final group match.
In the build-up to the championship, the Nigeria Football Federation introduced a commemorative Super Falcons kit designed to honour the team’s outstanding achievements.
The jersey features 10 stars arranged around the Nigerian crest, with each star symbolising one of the country’s WAFCON triumphs and highlighting the team’s long-standing dominance in African women’s football.
