The Federal Government has officially designated Thursday, April 11, 2024, as an additional public holiday to commemorate Eid-el-Fitr. This decision was conveyed in a statement released by Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. The announcement, made via the ministry’s official channels on Tuesday, underscores the government’s commitment to honoring this year’s Eid-el-Fitr festivities with an extended holiday.

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, extends congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for successfully concluding a month of spiritual renewal. He echoes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to fostering a secure and prosperous Nigeria conducive to the flourishing of all its citizens. This sentiment reflects the government’s dedication to providing an environment where everyone can thrive.

Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, officials reported on Monday that the crescent of Shawwal had not been sighted, signaling the continuation of fasting into Tuesday. Additionally, it was announced that Eid-el-Fitr would commence on Wednesday, April 10, marking the advent of the new Islamic month. These developments align with the global Islamic calendar and are significant for Muslims worldwide.

Earlier, the Federal Government had declared Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9 and 10, 2024, as public holidays to observe the Eid-el-Fitr celebration. This proactive approach ensures that citizens have ample time to participate in religious and cultural festivities, reflecting the government’s commitment to accommodating diverse religious practices and fostering social cohesion. Overall, these measures aim to promote inclusivity and harmony within Nigerian society.
