Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has been arrested and subsequently released on bail by the Nigeria Police Force after about one hour of interrogation over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.

Okorocha was reportedly arrested on Monday night at the REIZ Continental Hotel in central Abuja. He was later granted bail while investigations into the allegations continued.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the arrest and release, adding that the former governor had been directed to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning.

The arrest reportedly followed Okorocha’s failure to honour previous police invitations concerning the ongoing investigation.

He was initially invited to appear at the Force Headquarters on September 2, 2026. However, following a request from his lawyers, the appointment was rescheduled to September 8, but he reportedly failed to attend.

The police are continuing their investigation into the allegations, while Okorocha is expected to cooperate with authorities as the process progresses.
