The Borno State Government has announced a two-week closure of all government and private schools due to severe flooding across the state. The decision follows a visit to the Alo dam, a major water reservoir, which has suffered leakages due to high rainfall, causing floods in riverine and flood-prone areas.
The closure comes just days after the resumption of the 2024/2025 academic session on September 9, 2024. According to a statement by the Ministry of Education Science, Technology and Innovation, the visit to the dam was initiated by Governor Prof Babagana Zulum to assess the situation.
Meanwhile, Edo and Kano States have also announced indefinite school closures due to the current fuel price hike, which has led to transportation challenges and economic hardship.
The Borno State Government’s decision aims to ensure the safety of students and staff, and the closure will be reviewed after two weeks.”
