RCCG: Adeboye Cannot Direct Tinubu

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has clarified its position on national issues, stating that calls for its General Overseer, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, to direct President Bola Tinubu on how to govern the country are unrealistic and misplaced.

In a statement released by its Public Relations Unit, the church emphasized that Pastor Adeboye is a spiritual leader, not the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. RCCG noted that it is neither a political party nor an arm of any political organization and should not be held responsible for the nation’s economic and security challenges.

The church acknowledged that Nigerians are facing significant hardships and have every right to seek solutions. However, it described the growing expectation that Pastor Adeboye should “command” the President or the First Lady on matters of governance as unreasonable.

RCCG also dismissed claims circulating online that Pastor Adeboye led a protest against the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. According to the church, the photograph being shared was taken during a peaceful nationwide walk organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. The walk was held in response to the persistent killing of Christians, and Pastor Adeboye’s message at the time emphasized that every human life Christian and Muslim alike is precious to God.

While maintaining that the General Overseer cannot dictate government policies, the church stressed that Pastor Adeboye has never remained silent on matters affecting the nation. It recalled his remarks during the November 2025 Holy Ghost Service, where he openly expressed concern over the worsening security situation in the country.

During the service, Pastor Adeboye urged the President to give security chiefs a clear ultimatum to end insurgency or face dismissal. He also called for action not only against terrorists but against those who fund and sponsor them, saying, “When they eliminate the terrorists, ask them to eliminate their sponsors too.”
