Morrison Ogbonna, the recently appointed Cross River State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), was discovered dead in his hotel room in Calabar in the early hours of Thursday.
According to reliable sources, NDLEA officers went to pick up the commander for a scheduled assignment but received no response upon arrival. After knocking repeatedly with no answer, they alerted hotel management, who then unlocked the room only to find Ogbonna lifeless.
The cause of death has not yet been determined.
Ogbonna had only just assumed the position in August, replacing former commander Rachel Umebuali.
Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer SP Irene Ugbo-Obase said:
“Yes, the report is true. However, we are still unsure of what exactly led to his death.”
