President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to re-elect him in the 2027 general election, insisting that his administration deserves another term to deliver on its promises of prosperity, continuity and national development.
Tinubu made the appeal on Saturday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off rally at the Kaduna Township Stadium in Kaduna State.
Addressing party supporters, the president expressed gratitude to Nigerians, particularly residents of Kaduna, for supporting him in the 2023 presidential election. He said he was returning to seek their mandate for a second term.
“I come again to thank you for that victory and to seek your mandate for the second term, to keep a promise on prosperity, continuity and progress,” he said.
The president also responded to criticism from opposition figures over the country’s economic challenges, particularly hunger and poverty, blaming previous political leaders for the problems.
“I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did! They created hunger and poverty; we are trying to eradicate it,” Tinubu said.
He defended his administration’s record, stating that salaries were being paid regularly and commending APC governors for their efforts to promote development in their respective states.
Tinubu also promised Nigerians a more prosperous future if re-elected, assuring supporters that they would not regret voting for him for another four-year term.
The president further defended the removal of the petrol subsidy, describing it as a measure aimed at ending corruption, fraudulent invoicing and fuel smuggling.
He urged Nigerians to disregard what he described as misleading claims by opposition politicians and to support his administration’s reform agenda.
The 2027 presidential election is expected to be a major test for Tinubu’s administration, which has faced criticism over rising living costs and economic hardship following the introduction of major economic reforms.
Despite the challenges, the president is seeking a second term on the promise of sustaining ongoing reforms, improving economic conditions and advancing national development.
