Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has tasked the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign team in the state with taking its message directly to communities and winning the confidence of voters before the 2027 general elections.
He gave the directive on Thursday in Asaba while formally inaugurating the party’s campaign council, unveiling “MORE Plus” as the banner for his bid to return to office.
Addressing members of the newly constituted team, Oborevwori said their assignment went beyond holding political gatherings, stressing the need for a coordinated effort to secure electoral victories for President Bola Tinubu, himself and other APC flag bearers.
He instructed campaign officials across the state’s local government areas and wards to adopt a more personal approach by visiting households and speaking directly with residents about their concerns.
According to him, the campaign should extend to marketplaces, farms, workplaces and youth communities, ensuring that government policies and accomplishments are clearly communicated to the people.
Oborevwori maintained that the party could not depend on its performance in office alone, but must also make deliberate efforts to explain the benefits of its programmes to the electorate.
He pointed to Tinubu’s policy direction and his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda, which prioritises roads and other public infrastructure, schools, medical services, employee welfare, opportunities for young people and public safety.
The governor further stated that preparations for the elections would not come at the expense of his administration’s responsibilities. He appealed to political actors to avoid inflammatory statements and ensure that the contest remained peaceful.
Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme urged APC supporters to explain the Federal Government’s initiatives to residents, particularly its positions on financial independence for local councils, education, electricity supply, road construction and national security.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo backed Tinubu’s economic programme, arguing that the reforms were introduced to confront deep-rooted economic difficulties, including the high cost of maintaining fuel subsidies.
APC state chairman Solomon Arenyeka said the establishment of the campaign structure reflected the party’s preparations for the next electoral cycle. He charged members to build support through peaceful engagement and public awareness of the achievements of APC administrations.
Former governor Ifeanyi Okowa, representing Delta North, said the political transition following the large-scale movement of members from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC in April 2025 had raised expectations for the ruling party in the state.
He urged the campaign team to sustain contact with residents and ensure its message reached voters at the community level.
Former APC National Woman Leader Stella Okotete called for stronger participation by women in the election drive, proposing a minimum target of 75 per cent of the votes for Tinubu and other party candidates.
Oborevwori will lead the campaign council, while Senator James Manager has been named Director-General and Chiedu Ebie Deputy Director-General.
Manager pledged to work alongside party stakeholders to build an effective campaign network and strengthen the APC’s presence across Delta State before the 2027 elections.
