The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has assured Nigerians and the international community of the commission’s neutrality and commitment to delivering credible elections in 2027.
Amupitan made the commitment on Tuesday at INEC’s World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Forum on preparations for the 2027 general elections.
He called on Nigerians and other stakeholders to support the commission as it prepares for the elections, stressing that INEC would remain focused until the electoral process was fully concluded.
“We assure the nation and the international community of our total neutrality, operational excellence, and the sacred integrity of the ballot box,” Amupitan said.
He urged stakeholders to work with the commission to ensure that the 2027 elections become a positive milestone for the country.
“Let us work together to make 2027 general elections a moment of pride for our nation,” he said.
The INEC chairman also expressed appreciation to development partners for their support and cooperation with the commission.
“Let me say that until the deed is done after the general elections, we can’t rest on our oars,” he said.
INEC Outlines International Observer Arrangements
Amupitan said INEC had also put measures in place to coordinate the participation of international observers and strengthen engagement with relevant stakeholders ahead of the elections.
According to him, the International Cooperation and Partnership 2027 Election Project Plan provides a framework for managing international observer protocols, stakeholder engagement, security readiness and validated electoral timelines.
He said the framework would help ensure effective coordination between INEC and international partners throughout the electoral process.
Focus on Service Delivery and Transparency
The INEC chairman further disclosed that the commission’s SERVICOM Unit was working to improve service delivery, operational transparency and staff ethics.
He said the unit had been conducting Freedom of Information and capacity-building workshops, alongside the launch of revised integrated and medical service channels.
With preparations for the 2027 elections gathering pace, INEC is expected to continue its engagement with political parties, security agencies, civil society organisations, development partners and other stakeholders.
Amupitan’s remarks signal the commission’s determination to maintain public confidence in the electoral process while assuring stakeholders that neutrality, transparency and the integrity of the ballot will remain central to its preparations for 2027.
