Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the chances of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike said the duo would struggle to secure the constitutionally required 25 per cent of votes in Rivers State, despite Amaechi’s previous political influence in the state.
The former Rivers governor spoke on Monday during town hall meetings with stakeholders from the Rumueme and Apara kingdoms in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
Wike also described the Atiku-Amaechi ticket as a “joint ticket of corruption,” questioning the credibility of the opposition figures seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
He particularly criticised Atiku’s recent comments on corruption, recalling statements previously made about the former vice president by his former principal, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Wike argued that Atiku could not position himself as an anti-corruption candidate while questions about his past record remained part of the political debate.
The FCT minister further questioned Amaechi’s ability to deliver significant votes in Rivers, citing the former governor’s performance in previous presidential elections.
Wike said his focus ahead of the 2027 election was to ensure that President Tinubu secures victory, including in Rivers State.
His comments come amid growing political realignments as opposition parties and politicians intensify efforts to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 presidential election.
