2027: Nigeria’s Voter Register Hits 103 Million – INEC

Nigeria’s National Register of Voters has risen to more than 103 million ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission has announced.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja while delivering a keynote address at a strategic workshop for editors organised by the Nigerian Guild of Editors in collaboration with the commission.

Amupitan said the increase followed the completion of the three-phase Continuous Voter Registration exercise, the public display of the preliminary register and the final biometric verification and cleanup.

According to him, the three phases of the CVR recorded a combined 10,772,421 new registrations, although the figures were subjected to verification through the Automated Biometric Identification System.

The first phase, conducted between August 25 and December 10, 2025, recorded 2,611,266 registrations. The second phase, held from January 5 to April 17, 2026, produced 4,121,835 registrations, while the third phase, which ran from May 11 to July 26, 2026, recorded 3,867,997 registrations.

Amupitan said the commission had also completed the processing and distribution of Phase One Permanent Voter Cards to local government collection centres.

He announced that nationwide PVC collection would begin on Friday, October 9, urging registered voters to collect their cards promptly and calling on the media to educate citizens on the collection process.

The INEC chairman also revealed that the commission had acquired 57,000 new Bimodal Voter Accreditation System devices ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said the devices had undergone software upgrades, battery optimisation and biometric calibration as part of measures to strengthen accreditation and prevent manipulation.

Amupitan further disclosed that INEC was working with relevant government agencies to tackle vote-buying and illegal campaign spending ahead of the elections.

The presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027.

I was curious if you ever considered changing the structure of your blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or two pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?

This is a clear reminder to review destination quality and verification evidence before scaling. Keeping the tier boundary explicit also prevents accidental direct links.
