Teenage Nigerian sprinter Miracle Ezechukwu says she is heading into the 24th African Athletics Championships in Accra with clear goals — winning gold in both the women’s 100m and the 4x100m relay, while also hoping to lower her personal best.
The young athlete, among the youngest competitors representing Nigeria in Ghana, expressed confidence in her preparation and said she is eager to make a strong statement in the individual sprint event.
Fresh out of secondary school, Ezechukwu said her focus remains on helping Team Nigeria secure medals, adding that she is ready to give her all in every race she has been entered for.
Speaking to FIRST ZEALMEDIACAST, she stated that her target is to claim victory in the 100m and also help the relay team finish on top of the podium.
She added that while she hopes to achieve a new personal record during the competition, her priority is delivering her best for the country and contributing to the team’s success.
Ezechukwu also reflected on her appearance at the World Relays in Botswana, where she featured in Nigeria’s women’s 4x100m team, saying the competition gave her valuable exposure ahead of the continental event.
According to her, the experience helped her grow mentally, especially after a challenging relay outing where an early setback disrupted the team’s performance.
She credited discipline, consistent training, trust in her coach and faith in God as key factors behind her progress, expressing belief that her efforts will produce positive results.
The teenage sprinter is part of Nigeria’s 41-athlete delegation to the championships, made up of 24 women and 17 men, with the competition getting underway at the University of Ghana in Legon.
Team Nigeria is expected to feature in several track and field events as they chase medals against some of Africa’s top athletics talents.
