Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has congratulated Governor Alex Otti, the Abia State Government and residents of the state as Abia marks its 35th anniversary.
Kalu described the anniversary as an opportunity for Abians to reflect on the state’s journey since its creation on August 27, 1991, celebrate achievements and renew their commitment to unity and sustainable development.
He praised the resilience, enterprise and determination of Abia people, saying their contributions have played an important role in the development of the state over the past three and a half decades.
The former governor acknowledged that the progress recorded in Abia has been the result of contributions from successive administrations, traditional institutions, civil servants, professionals, entrepreneurs, youths, women and other citizens.
Kalu, who served as governor of Abia from 1999 to 2007, extended his goodwill to Governor Otti and the entire people of the state.
The anniversary has also provided an opportunity for Abia leaders and residents to reflect on the state’s achievements and challenges. Governor Otti, in his anniversary address, highlighted developments in road infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture and the payment of outstanding gratuity arrears.
Otti urged residents to remain committed to the development of the state and support efforts aimed at improving infrastructure and public services.
As Abia marks 35 years, political leaders and stakeholders have called for greater unity and sustained development, stressing the need to build institutions and systems that will benefit future generations.
Kalu’s message adds to the goodwill messages from individuals and groups celebrating the anniversary and recognising the contributions of Abians to the state’s growth.
