NFF Appoints Maikaba, Uwejamomere for Youth National Teams

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed the appointment of Abdu Maikaba and Eboboritse Uwejamomere as the new head coaches of the national U-20 men’s team and the U-17 boys’ team respectively.

Their appointments come as part of a wider restructuring of the technical crews across Nigeria’s age-grade national teams.

In a statement released on Thursday, the NFF disclosed that its Executive Committee approved the recommendation of the Technical and Development Committee regarding the two appointments.

Maikaba returns to youth football with a wealth of coaching experience, having previously worked with the Golden Eaglets and also served as assistant coach of the Flying Eagles during Paul Aigbogun’s tenure. Over the years, he has handled several top Nigerian clubs, including Enyimba, Kano Pillars, Wikki Tourists and Plateau United.

One of the highlights of his coaching career came in 2017 when he guided Akwa United to victory in the country’s oldest domestic football competition, now known as the President Federation Cup.

Uwejamomere, who now takes charge of the Golden Eaglets, is widely known for his role as a coach-analyst with the Super Eagles. He currently serves as head of academy at Sporting Lagos FC, recently promoted back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The new U-17 coach has also worked with the Super Falcons and gained youth development experience in England with clubs such as Millwall, Gillingham and Nottingham Forest. In addition, he previously managed Abeokuta-based Stormers FC.

Reports indicate that Uwejamomere emerged ahead of Beyond Limits coach Olumide Ajibolade and Plateau United manager Shola Adegun in the race for the position.

Meanwhile, the national U-23 side is said to be the next team expected to undergo changes in its technical setup. Former Super Eagles stars Samson Siasia and Daniel Amokachi are reportedly being considered for the role ahead of the qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
