UBA Foundation, the social investment vehicle of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, has carried out wide-ranging humanitarian interventions across Nigeria and 19 other African countries, delivering relief items and financial support valued at several millions of naira and dollars to underserved populations.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Foundation said its Food Bank and Giving Back programmes reached more than 100,000 people between November 2025 and January 2026. The beneficiaries included pupils, residents of orphanage homes, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and other vulnerable groups, who received food supplies, educational materials, and cash assistance.
The Foundation explained that the intervention was designed to cushion the economic pressures typically associated with the year-end period and the start of a new year. It added that the initiative aligns with the UBA Group’s broader mission of promoting social inclusion, uplifting communities, and strengthening resilience across its operational footprint.
Within Nigeria, the outreach cut across the country’s six geopolitical zones, with support extended to several orphanages and IDP settlements. Beneficiary institutions included orphanage homes in Abia, Ebonyi, Lagos, Oyo, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Kogi, Taraba, Kebbi, and Jigawa states, as well as displacement camps in Niger and Borno states. According to the Foundation, these interventions ensured that children and displaced families received essential supplies needed for daily living and learning.
Outside Nigeria, UBA Foundation said it implemented similar relief and nutrition-focused programmes across multiple African markets. Countries reached include Benin Republic, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Congo Brazzaville, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. Collectively, these initiatives impacted hundreds of thousands of individuals across the continent.
Commenting on the initiative, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA Foundation, Bola Atta, said the organisation remains committed to making a consistent and meaningful difference in people’s lives, irrespective of location or socio-economic status. She spoke during visits to some beneficiary centres, including an orphanage in Okobaba, Lagos, where food items and school supplies were distributed to residents.
Atta noted that the Foundation’s philosophy is anchored on empathy, responsibility, and action. She explained that the Food Bank and Giving Back programmes are not limited to emergency relief but are also intended to rebuild confidence, inspire hope, and support long-term personal and community development.
She further stated that access to adequate nutrition and basic educational resources plays a critical role in children’s physical health, mental development, and overall well-being. As such, the Foundation’s interventions are structured to address both immediate needs and sustainable human development outcomes.
UBA Foundation also highlighted its extensive history of philanthropic engagement across Africa. Its initiatives include education-focused programmes such as the National Essay Competition and Read Africa Project, environmental efforts like Tree Planting for Sustainability, as well as health campaigns, mentorship initiatives, kindness-driven projects, and its flagship Food Bank programme. These efforts are aimed at reducing inequality, supporting vulnerable populations, and creating opportunities for growth.
Reaffirming its mandate, the Foundation said it remains dedicated to advancing social and economic progress in communities where UBA operates. Its focus areas include education, environmental protection, economic empowerment, and special impact projects designed to improve quality of life and promote inclusive development across Africa.
