Commuters Praise Tinubu, Wike Over Completed Karu Road Project

Residents and commuters in Karu, Abuja, have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following the completion of a major road project in the area.

The 15-kilometre Karu township road network, which stretches from Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction, has been described by residents as a significant improvement to transportation and commercial activities in the community.

The project also included the rehabilitation of several feeder roads, including DSS Road, NIA Road, EFCC Road, Primus Hospital Road and Old CBN Quarters Road.

Residents said the improved road network has eased traffic congestion and reduced the flooding that previously affected movement, particularly during the rainy season.

A shop owner, Chinyere Obasi, said travelling through Karu during peak periods and heavy rainfall had previously been difficult because of persistent traffic and poor drainage. She, however, said the situation had improved considerably following the completion and inauguration of the project.

A teacher, Anita Ogunwunmi, also recalled the challenges commuters faced during rainy periods, saying flooding and traffic congestion often caused workers and students to spend long hours on the road.

According to her, the improved road has made daily movement easier and reduced the need for residents to leave their homes unusually early to beat traffic.

Another resident, Johnpaul Adamu, praised the transformation of the area, particularly the installation of streetlights along the road corridor.

He said the improved lighting had enhanced visibility and contributed to a greater sense of safety for motorists and other road users travelling at night.

The road project was awarded to Abdul-Val Nigeria Ltd on August 22, 2025, with construction covering the main corridor and associated feeder roads.

The project manager of Abdul-Val Nigeria Ltd, Hacı Cengiz, said the completion demonstrated the capacity of indigenous engineering companies to execute major infrastructure projects.

He attributed the successful delivery of the project to the commitment of the FCT Administration and availability of resources needed to sustain construction activities.

Cengiz added that the project had also contributed to employment and economic activity within surrounding communities. According to him, as many as 259 workers were engaged during the construction, with most recruited from host communities.

The development forms part of the wider infrastructure drive in the Federal Capital Territory under the administration of Wike, with several road and urban development projects being undertaken across Abuja.

The positive reactions from residents highlight the immediate impact that improved road infrastructure can have on transportation, business activities and the general quality of life in rapidly developing communities.
