Ned Nwoko Emerges Among BusinessDay’s Top 10 Senators of the 10th National Assembly

The lawmaker representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko, has emerged as one of BusinessDay’s Top 10 Senators of the 10th National Assembly for what the publication described as people-focused and performance-driven service.

According to a statement from the senator’s media office, Nwoko was recognised by BusinessDay for his legislative contributions and commitment to effective representation.

The statement said the senator has championed initiatives focused on economic development, institutional reforms and improved opportunities for Nigerians, while also advancing the interests of his constituents in Delta North.

BusinessDay’s assessment noted that since his inauguration into the 10th Senate, Nwoko had brought what it described as intellect, intensity and a strong presence to national discourse. It said his emergence in the Senate was driven by the expectations of the Anioma people for effective representation and results.

The publication also highlighted Nwoko’s defined legislative agenda and described him as a legislator who has been willing to challenge the status quo.

His influence in the Senate, according to the assessment, has also been reflected in his committee appointments. He serves as Deputy Chairman of the Committees on Environment and Sports Development and currently chairs the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation.

Nwoko’s motion calling for an investigation into crude oil theft in the Niger Delta also led to the establishment of an ad-hoc committee, which he now chairs.

Beyond his committee responsibilities, the assessment pointed to his involvement in constituency matters and described his approach to public office as centred on service, listening and advocacy.

Legislative Contributions

According to the documentation, Nwoko has sponsored and co-sponsored more than 30 bills and over 25 motions addressing national issues including security, equity, institutional reform and sustainable development.

Among the bills attributed to him are proposals on the creation of Aniocha State, establishment of a National Agency for Malaria Elimination, diaspora voting, local government autonomy, the upgrade of the Federal College of Education in Asaba to a Federal University of Technology, and amendments relating to heavy-duty vehicle movement.

The document also lists proposals addressing social media platform offices in Nigeria, foreign-currency remuneration, youth entrepreneurship, electoral courts, private security companies, substance abuse and ranch development.

Constituency Projects

The recognition also comes against the backdrop of several constituency projects listed in the senator’s performance documentation.

These include classroom construction and renovation, ICT centres, provision of computers and laptops, healthcare facility upgrades, medical outreach programmes and empowerment initiatives for women, youths and farmers across Delta North.

The document also highlights Nwoko’s role in securing legislative concurrence for the restoration of the Aniocha North II State Constituency, following a long-running legal and legislative process.

It further records his intervention in the detention of King Clement Ikolo of Ewu Kingdom following the Okuama incident, including his engagement with the Chief of Defence Staff and offer to stand as surety for the monarch. The document states that the king was subsequently released.

Nwoko also intervened following the discovery of an alleged illegal arms factory in Onicha-Olona, Delta State, where the documentation says he advocated due process and the rehabilitation of individuals with technical skills.

The recognition places Senator Nwoko among the lawmakers highlighted by BusinessDay for their performance and contributions during the 10th National Assembly.
