A popular Lagos socialite and nightclub owner, Mike Nwalie, better known as Pretty Mike, has been granted ₦50 million bail by the Federal High Court in Lagos following his arraignment on Thursday over alleged drug-related offences.
Nwalie, who owns Proxy Lagos Night Club, was arraigned alongside the club’s supervisor, 32-year-old Joachim Hillary, by the Federal Government through the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Both men appeared before Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful possession, and permitting the use of the club premises for illegal drug activities.
According to the NDLEA prosecutor, Buhari Abdullahi, the offences were allegedly committed on or about October 26, 2025, at Proxy Night Club located at No. 7, Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The agency alleged that the defendants conspired to organise a drug party at the club. During a subsequent raid, NDLEA operatives reportedly recovered 200 grams of Cannabis Sativa and 177 cylinders of nitrous oxide (popularly known as laughing gas), weighing a total of 364.662 kilograms.
The second defendant, Hillary, was specifically accused of being in possession of 200 grams of Cannabis Sativa without lawful authority, while Pretty Mike, 45, was charged with allowing his club premises to be used for drug-related activities.
The prosecution stated that the offences contravened Sections 14(b) and 20(1)(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and are punishable under Sections 20(2)(b) and 12 of the same Act.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following their plea, the prosecution sought a trial date, while defence counsel, Dr. B.S. Awosika (SAN), applied for bail, urging the court to grant it on liberal terms. Awosika argued that the defendants had no prior criminal records and would be available for trial, adding that the prosecution had not shown any reason to deny bail.
In his ruling, Justice Lewis-Allagoa held that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty, noting that the burden lies on the prosecution to justify a denial of bail.
The judge granted each defendant bail in the sum of ₦50 million, with two sureties in like sum, who must also swear to an affidavit of means.
He further ordered that the defendants be released to their counsel pending the fulfilment of their bail conditions.
The case was adjourned until January 14, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
