Film marketer and producer Kazim Adeoti has opened up about what drew him to his wife, popular Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe. Speaking during a recent interview with Oyinmomo, Adeoti revealed that it was Mercy’s honesty and professionalism that first caught his attention.
Recalling how their relationship began on the set of the 2011 film Hajia Jemila, he said:
“What I really admire about her is her honesty and straightforwardness; it’s something I truly respect. I remember in 2011 when she starred in Hajia Jemila. After I paid her, I was already expecting the usual complaints about the fee being too small. But instead, she came back to return the leftover balance. I was genuinely shocked.”
He added that at the time, many people had advised him to avoid working closely with women if he wanted to succeed in the film industry. However, Mercy changed his perspective.
“People kept saying I should only work closely with men, but I decided to give her a chance—and she completely changed my mindset. She’s not only a woman but a beautiful one at that, and she still acted with so much integrity. Honestly, I never collected that remaining money from her, and we continued working together from there.”
That simple act of honesty, he explained, laid the foundation for a strong professional relationship, which eventually blossomed into a romantic one.
Kazim Adeoti, also known as Adekaz, officially married Mercy Aigbe in 2022, despite already being married to his first wife, Funsho Adeoti. The union sparked mixed reactions on social media, but the couple has remained united, insisting they have no regrets.
Mercy, who also owns a fashion business, Mag Divas, explained in an earlier interview that one of the reasons she married Kazim was because of their shared passion for the film industry.
“One of the reasons I married him is that we’re both in the same industry. He understands what I do, and we are building an empire together,” she said.
Since their marriage, the couple has collaborated on several film projects, including the 2023 box office hit Ada Omo Daddy, produced by Mercy and distributed by Adekaz Productions.
Mercy has also emphasized that their relationship is rooted in love, not financial dependency, stating that she was already financially independent before their marriage.
In 2025, the actress won the Best Supporting Actress award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA)for her performance in Farmer’s Bride, further solidifying her place as one of Nollywood’s leading talents.
