Jude Okoye, the former manager of the popular Nigerian music group P-Square, has been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on fresh charges of alleged theft. The charges include the theft of $1,019,763.87 and £34,537.59, which were allegedly paid to him by various music companies, including Lex Records Limited and Kobalt Music.
According to the EFCC, Jude Okoye dishonestly converted the funds to his own use, with the intent to permanently deprive Peter Okoye, a member of P-Square, of his special interest in the property. The alleged offenses were committed between 2016 and 2023.
Jude Okoye is facing four counts preferred against him by the EFCC, and has pleaded not guilty to the charges. His counsel has also filed a bail application dated February 27, 2025.
This is not the first time Jude Okoye has faced allegations of theft. He is also facing a similar case of seven counts before Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court. The Federal High Court granted him bail in the sum of N100 million, with two sureties, on Monday.
The case has sparked interest in the Nigerian music industry, with many fans and stakeholders following the developments closely. The EFCC’s prosecution of Jude Okoye is seen as a significant step in the agency’s efforts to tackle corruption and financial crimes in the country.
