A 22-year-old patient, Abiodun Ayomide, is seeking N20 million for a kidney transplant.
In 2022, Abiodun was diagnosed with kidney stones at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, as stated in a letter to The Punch from Belele David, the Chairman of the Gifting Volunteer Network.
It was reported that the patient’s condition had progressed to the point of renal failure, requiring immediate medical attention.
“It started in 2022. My body felt strange. I could sense something had changed. I went for a test at BT in LASUTH after I saw a doctor. When the result was out, it showed kidney stones. My world fell. I thought it was just a minor illness,” Abiodun was quoted as saying.
Abiodun claims that in order to get rid of the stones, the treatment was started that year.
“While getting treatment, we bought a lot of drugs, too. Since there wasn’t much improvement, we went for another test and treatment in the same BT,” he added.
Belele observed that “Abiodun’s world came crumbling in 2024, despite giving it his all to meet with his medical routines.” It was the year his kidney failed.”
Abiodun also said, “My kidney failed. So, we began dialysis at the Renal Dialysis Centre in LASUTH in February 2024.
“I do dialysis twice a week. It costs my family N45,000. My parents are financially burdened and drained. We are financially stranded. I need your assistance. Please help me. I don’t want to die. I’m only 22 and have yet to achieve any of my dreams in life,” he pleaded.
The patient’s doctor recommended a kidney transplant, and Abiodun’s family is pleading with well-intentioned Nigerians and other members of the public to intervene and save their loved one.
