A powerful dynamite blast shook the Action People’s Party secretariat along the GRA axis in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Monday morning. The explosion reportedly occurred in the early hours of the day , around 1am.
According to reports, the attackers allegedly hurled what is believed to be dynamite into the party’s building, causing extensive damage including shattered windows and doors, and destruction of other property within the premises. This incident unfolds amid rumors suggesting that State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is planning to shift allegiance to the APP with his supporters, following claims that his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, has taken control of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
Our correspondent on-site observed that the building’s ceiling and fixtures were severely damaged, and several party officials were seen discussing the situation.
A party representative, who chose to remain anonymous, labeled the attack as politically motivated. “Indeed, I am a member of the APP. I was alerted about the attack around 3 am today. This is clearly a politically-driven act. The APP is gaining momentum in the state, and we urge the police to investigate and apprehend those responsible,” he stated.
When reached for comment, Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the state police command, was not yet informed about the incident but assured that she would look into the matter and provide an update to our correspondent.
