Osun Election: Wike Camp Breaks Silence on PDP’s Absence From Poll

The political camp associated with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has explained the absence of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Osun State governorship election.

The development comes as political parties and candidates make final preparations for Saturday’s governorship poll, with the PDP not fielding a candidate in the election.

The Wike camp maintained that the party’s absence from the ballot was linked to the internal crisis that has affected the PDP and its leadership structure.

The development is particularly significant given the PDP’s long-standing political presence in Osun State and its previous participation in governorship contests.

The party’s internal divisions have continued to generate controversy, with rival camps taking different positions on the legitimate leadership of the PDP. Wike and his allies have maintained that their faction represents the authentic party structure.

The absence of the PDP has therefore altered the political calculations ahead of the election, with other parties seeking to attract voters who traditionally identify with the opposition party.

The Osun election is expected to be closely watched as political stakeholders assess how the PDP’s absence could affect voter preferences and the wider political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
