President Bola Tinubu has approved the purchase of brand-new Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) for traditional rulers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.
Wike disclosed this on Saturday, October 31, during a stakeholders’ rally organised by the FCT Stakeholders Assembly at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja.
He explained that the approval was part of the President’s efforts to recognise and strengthen traditional institutions in the territory, noting that the vehicles would be delivered before December.
The minister said the decision followed Tinubu’s approval to upgrade traditional institutions in the FCT, an exercise he noted had been stalled for 27 years.
According to Wike, traditional rulers play important roles in preserving cultural heritage, maintaining peace and promoting development within their communities. He argued that they deserved better recognition and support from the government.
The minister also revealed that Tinubu had approved four buses for youths in the FCT to support grassroots political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
At the event, Wike urged supporters of the President to translate their political endorsements into actual votes, insisting that every supporter must work towards delivering their polling units, wards and local government areas.
He warned political stakeholders against claiming credit for electoral victories without contributing to the results at the grassroots.
The gathering also featured the endorsement of Tinubu for a second term in 2027, alongside other political candidates seeking elective positions in the FCT.
