Davido Should Apologise to Okpebholo, Lawyer Says

A lawyer, Timothy Tugbiyele, has called on Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, to apologise to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo over a social media exchange involving the governor’s West African Examinations Council result.

Tugbiyele made the appeal while reacting to the growing political disagreement between Okpebholo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the state’s governorship election.

The controversy began after Okpebholo took a swipe at Adeleke during an All Progressives Congress campaign event. He made comments about the Osun governor’s dancing and questioned whether residents were becoming tired of seeing him dance.

Davido, who has openly backed Adeleke, responded by sharing what was presented as Okpebholo’s WAEC result on his social media page.

However, Tugbiyele said Davido should not have responded to the governor personally, arguing that the singer’s reaction went beyond defending his political ally.

The lawyer said Adeleke could have handled Okpebholo’s comments through the appropriate political channels instead of allowing the disagreement to become a personal exchange.

He described Davido’s response as unnecessary and urged the singer to take responsibility by apologising to the Edo governor.

According to Tugbiyele, political disagreements should be handled with restraint, particularly when public figures are involved. He warned that responding to insults with personal attacks could further worsen political tensions.

The dispute has attracted attention online as political activities intensify ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election, with Davido continuing to publicly support Adeleke and Okpebholo campaigning for the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
