Cunha: Champions League “incomplete” without Manchester United

Manchester United striker Matheus Cunha has stated that the UEFA Champions League “feels incomplete” without Manchester United, highlighting the club’s significance in European football after they confirmed their place in next season’s tournament.

As reported by BBC Sport, he made the comments after United’s exciting 3–2 win against Liverpool at Old Trafford, a result that secured their qualification for the competition with games still left to play.

Cunha spoke passionately about the club’s return to elite European football, insisting that Manchester United naturally deserve to compete at the highest level.

“In my view, the Champions League isn’t the same without this team, and this team also isn’t complete without the Champions League,” he said.

He also emphasized that qualification alone should not be the final target, but rather the starting point for bigger ambitions. “But qualifying for the Champions League is not enough. We have to go for trophies. This is only the beginning,” he added.

United’s recent rise in form has been linked to interim boss Michael Carrick, who has impressed since taking charge. Cunha praised his leadership and the positive energy he has brought to the squad.

“It is a great honour to play for this club,” he said.

“The Champions League without Manchester United doesn’t feel right,” he repeated.

The Brazilian forward has been influential in United’s season, scoring decisive goals in important matches against teams like Arsenal and Chelsea, helping push the club back into Europe’s top competition spots.

With the season approaching its final stage, Cunha urged the team to keep improving and aim for greater success. “We can come back even stronger next season,” he said, reflecting the confidence growing within the squad.
