The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a man following the circulation of a video in which he allegedly threatened to destroy police installations in his community.
The suspect, identified as Oluchukwu Anyaoku, was taken into custody after the video in which he purportedly issued the threats went viral online. The clip reportedly showed him vowing to “destroy all police formations in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area” of the state.
According to a press statement by the command’s spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, officers attached to the Obosi Division acted swiftly upon intercepting the video. Anyaoku was traced on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, and arrested for questioning. During the arrest, police recovered a firearm and a cutlass from his possession.
The police say preliminary observations suggest the suspect may need professional medical evaluation, and appropriate procedures are being followed. Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Awka for a comprehensive investigation and further review.
The development has sparked concern in the community over the prevalence of violent threats on social media and the role of online platforms in amplifying such messages. The command’s prompt action serves as a warning to individuals who use social media to incite violence or threaten public institutions.
Security analysts note that this arrest is part of a broader pattern in which social media videos and voice notes — once viral — have prompted law-enforcement interventions in Anambra State. In past months, the police have launched investigations into other threatening videos and voice notes circulated across the state, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining public order.
The case also revives debates about online accountability, mental health evaluation of suspects, and the challenge of addressing violent content before it leads to real-world harm. Authorities say the outcome of the investigation will clarify whether Anyaoku’s actions were intended to incite violence or stemmed from other provocations.
As of the latest update, the suspect remains in custody. The CID is reviewing evidence, questioning the suspect, and evaluating his mental fitness, even as the community watches closely for further developments. The police have urged residents to report similar threatening content to help prevent escalation and to promote peace and safety across the state.
