The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a man following the circulation of a video in which he allegedly threatened to destroy police installations in his community.
The suspect, identified as Oluchukwu Anyaoku, was taken into custody after the video in which he purportedly issued the threats went viral online. The clip reportedly showed him vowing to “destroy all police formations in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area” of the state.
According to a press statement by the command’s spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, officers attached to the Obosi Division acted swiftly upon intercepting the video. Anyaoku was traced on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, and arrested for questioning. During the arrest, police recovered a firearm and a cutlass from his possession.
The police say preliminary observations suggest the suspect may need professional medical evaluation, and appropriate procedures are being followed. Meanwhile, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Awka for a comprehensive investigation and further review.
The development has sparked concern in the community over the prevalence of violent threats on social media and the role of online platforms in amplifying such messages. The command’s prompt action serves as a warning to individuals who use social media to incite violence or threaten public institutions.
