Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has urged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) if he intends to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
Lawal said it was contradictory for Wike to publicly support Tinubu’s presidential ambition while simultaneously backing candidates from other political parties in governorship and legislative elections.
The Zamfara governor made the remarks during an interview with Channels Television’s *Inside Sources* on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York on Thursday.
According to Lawal, the position of APC governors on Wike’s Rainbow Coalition has remained unchanged despite the FCT minister’s repeated explanations of the purpose and structure of the political platform.
Lawal maintained that Wike must clearly define his political allegiance ahead of the 2027 general elections, arguing that he could not simultaneously operate on both sides of the political divide.
“Our message is very, very clear: Be on one side. You can’t be in two sides. If you’re in APC, please come out and support APC. Not you’re supporting APC here and you’re supporting other political parties somewhere else. It doesn’t make sense. It’s not done anywhere,” he said.
The governor added that APC governors would continue to maintain their position on the matter.
“And that is why we maintain our stand, and it is very clear—the message is very clear. He can speak, he can say whatever he wants to say, but our position has been very, very clear: APC all the way from head to toe,” Lawal added.
Asked whether the position of the APC governors amounted to a call for Wike to formally join the ruling party, Lawal responded in the affirmative.
“Exactly. What’s the essence?” he said.
The governor also disclosed that he intended to raise the matter with President Tinubu, insisting that Wike’s political affiliation should be clearly established ahead of the elections.
