The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) is making plans to formally launch its United Kingdom chapter as part of efforts to expand its political structure and strengthen its presence among Nigerians in the diaspora ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, disclosed the development during a meeting with members of the NDC-UK chapter and Nigerian community representatives at the London Park Lane Hilton Hotel on Saturday.

Dickson, a former governor of Bayelsa State, reportedly said he would return to the United Kingdom with the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and other top officials for the formal inauguration of the chapter.

The planned visit is expected to bring together members of the party’s leadership and its supporters in the UK as the NDC continues preparations for the 2027 elections.

According to a statement issued by the NDC-UK Publicity Secretary, Boniokoye Imegwu, the meeting provided an opportunity for Dickson to engage with party members and discuss the organisation’s activities and future plans.

The former governor had arrived in London from the Netherlands, where he had earlier inaugurated the party’s chapter in the country.

Addressing those present, Dickson called on electoral institutions and officials to demonstrate integrity, fairness, responsibility and patriotism in the conduct of the 2027 general elections.

He stressed the importance of credible elections and urged those entrusted with managing the electoral process to uphold democratic principles.

Also speaking at the gathering, the NDC-UK Country Chairman, Princewill Urum, reaffirmed the chapter’s commitment to the party and expressed appreciation to Dickson for his leadership.

Urum pledged the chapter’s continued support for the party’s programmes and activities, particularly as it works towards strengthening its international presence.

The leader of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), a political network with Nigerian and international membership, was also present at the meeting.

The COPDEM leader commended the party’s direction and expressed willingness to provide resources and personnel for initiatives aimed at strengthening democratic participation and supporting credible elections.

The proposed UK inauguration is part of the NDC’s wider efforts to establish structures outside Nigeria, mobilise diaspora supporters and consolidate its organisation ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
