2027: Kano Residents Protest ₦3,000 Payment for APC Rally

Some residents of Kano State who attended an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign mobilisation have expressed dissatisfaction over an alleged ₦3,000 payment received after participating in the political event.

In a video circulating on social media, some of the participants, who were seen wearing APC-branded shirts, complained that the amount was insufficient to cover expenses incurred in travelling to the rally venue.

One of the participants said some attendees had borrowed money to pay their transport fares before travelling to the campaign ground, only to receive ₦3,000 after the event.

“If you people keep giving us ₦3,000 for APC campaign, we won’t come again,” the participant said, according to the video cited by Daily Post.

The participant further complained that the payment did not adequately compensate those who had incurred transportation costs to attend the event.

The video has generated reactions amid increasing political mobilisation across Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development comes as the APC intensifies its grassroots activities in Kano, with the ruling party recently holding a major mobilisation event that attracted supporters and political figures.

Reports indicate that the party has also recorded new entrants into its ranks in the state as part of efforts to strengthen its political structure ahead of the 2027 elections.

The complaint by the participants has raised questions about the role of financial incentives in political mobilisation and the expectations of people who attend campaign rallies.

However, the circumstances surrounding the alleged payment could not be independently verified. It was also unclear whether the ₦3,000 represented an official APC payment, transportation allowance or an arrangement made by a particular campaign or support group.

The participants’ comments appeared to suggest that the cost of travelling to the rally had become a major concern for some attendees, particularly those who had to source money for transportation before attending.

The incident comes amid heightened political activity nationwide as political parties and support groups begin laying the groundwork for the 2027 general elections.

Kano remains one of Nigeria’s politically significant states because of its large voting population and influence in national elections. Political parties are therefore expected to intensify grassroots engagement, membership drives and mobilisation activities as the election approaches.

The APC has continued to project its growing support base in Kano, while opposition parties are also seeking to strengthen their structures and challenge the ruling party’s influence in the state.

The reported protest by some rally participants, however, highlights the economic difficulties that can affect political mobilisation, particularly when participants are expected to travel long distances to attend campaign events.

As political activities increase ahead of 2027, the incident may further fuel public debate over the methods used by political parties and campaign organisations to mobilise supporters.
