Getafe midfielder Christantus Uche has begun his rehabilitation after undergoing successful surgery on a serious right knee injury suffered in pre-season.
The Nigerian midfielder was hurt on August 6 during Getafe’s friendly against Monaco following a challenge from Monaco defender Christian Mawissa.
Further examinations showed that the 23-year-old had damaged several ligaments and the meniscus in his right knee. The injury was severe enough to require surgery and has brought his season to an early end.
Uche confirmed on Wednesday that the operation was successful, sharing a photo of himself after the procedure as he prepared to start the long road back to fitness.
The midfielder expressed appreciation to Dr Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet and his medical team for handling the operation. He also thanked his agent, Getafe’s coaches, teammates and other members of the club for their support.
Uche equally acknowledged those who reached out to him with messages, prayers and encouragement since the injury. He said his faith would help him remain strong throughout the recovery process.
His latest setback comes after a difficult spell at Crystal Palace last season. Uche spent the campaign with the Premier League club on loan but struggled to secure regular playing time, featuring 22 times and accumulating 477 minutes.
Palace had the opportunity to sign him permanently at the end of the loan spell but chose not to take up the option, sending the midfielder back to Getafe.
With surgery now completed, Uche faces a lengthy rehabilitation period as he works towards making his return to football.
