The Abia State Government has honoured outgoing security commanders who served in the state, recognising their contributions to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property.

Governor Alex Otti has consistently emphasised the importance of cooperation between the state government and security agencies in tackling insecurity. The governor has previously said that sustained collaboration with security personnel has contributed to improved security across Abia.

The recognition of outgoing commanders reflects the administration’s appreciation for security personnel who served in the state and worked with other agencies and communities to address security challenges.

Otti’s administration has made security a major priority, with regular engagements involving service commanders to review security developments and coordinate responses to emerging challenges.

The governor has also maintained that security is a collective responsibility involving government, security agencies and residents.

The outgoing commanders are expected to hand over their responsibilities to their successors as part of the normal transition within the security architecture of the state.

The state government’s gesture is also aimed at encouraging serving security personnel to remain committed to their duties and maintain the cooperation that exists between the government and security agencies.

Abia has previously organised send-off ceremonies for outgoing service commanders, with the governor describing the events as a way of appreciating their contributions and encouraging those taking over to build on the work already done.

The government has continued to stress the importance of maintaining peace and security as part of its broader development agenda.

Governor Otti has attributed improvements in the state’s security situation to the combined efforts of security agencies, government officials and residents.

He has also urged security personnel to maintain professionalism while carrying out their responsibilities and protecting residents.

The recognition of outgoing commanders therefore represents more than a ceremonial farewell, as it highlights the importance of continuity and cooperation within the state’s security structure.

As the new commanders assume their responsibilities, expectations will remain high for them to sustain existing security measures and strengthen collaboration with the state government.

The development also underscores the role of effective communication between government officials and security agencies in responding to security challenges.

The Abia Government is expected to continue engaging security agencies as part of efforts to maintain the relative peace in the state and create a safe environment for residents, businesses and visitors.
