Real Madrid coach José Mourinho has ruled out any attempt to bring Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal to his squad, despite admitting that the teenager possesses outstanding ability.
Mourinho was asked about the 19-year-old winger and acknowledged his quality, but made it clear that Real Madrid have no interest in pursuing a deal for him.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Mourinho said on X on Thursday: “I won’t sign him. We already have the best players.”
Yamal has continued to attract attention with his performances, establishing himself as one of the most highly rated young players in world football.
However, Mourinho believes Real Madrid already have enough quality within their ranks and sees no reason to strengthen his squad with the Barcelona star.
The Portuguese also discussed the arrival of Yan Diomande, revealing that although he was not the one who specifically requested the signing, he was pleased with the club’s decision to bring in the young attacker.
“No, I did not ask, but I wanted him. He’s a great player who can play on both sides,” Mourinho said.
Diomande’s ability to operate on either wing appears to be one of the qualities that impressed Mourinho, giving the coach another versatile option in attack.
Real Madrid will open their league campaign against Espanyol on Saturday, August 22, with the match set to be played at the RCDE Stadium.
