Osun Election: Residents Return Home to Vote Ahead of Saturday Poll

Residents of Osun State have begun travelling to their various communities and registered polling locations ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Some residents were seen at motor parks across Osogbo on Friday, with travellers heading to different parts of the state to participate in the election. Others were arriving from neighbouring states ahead of the poll.

Some voters said they were returning to their hometowns because their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were registered in those locations and they were unable to transfer their voting centres to Osogbo.

One of the travellers said she was travelling to Ejigbo with family members because she was registered to vote there. She expressed hope that the election would be peaceful and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a credible process.

Another resident said he had consistently travelled to Iwo Local Government Area to vote since 2013. He also disclosed that some of his relatives were travelling from Kwara, Oyo and Lagos states to participate in the election.

A voter travelling to Esa-Oke said she chose to return early to avoid difficulties getting to her community before election day. She encouraged eligible voters to participate, stressing that the outcome of the election would determine the direction of the state for the next four years.

The movement of voters comes as Osun prepares for Saturday’s governorship election, with eligible voters across the state’s 30 local government areas expected to cast their ballots.

Political stakeholders have continued to call for a peaceful election, while security agencies have announced measures to protect voters, electoral officials and election materials during the exercise.

The election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, with voters expected to choose the governor who will lead Osun State for the next four years.
