Great Joshua MacIver has formally declared his intention to contest the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship ticket in Bayelsa State ahead of the 2027 election.
MacIver communicated his ambition in a letter addressed to the Bayelsa State PDP chairman and members of the State Working Committee, outlining his plans to seek the party’s nomination.
In his declaration, the former deputy governorship aspirant said his ambition would be driven by competence, experience, transparency, commitment and the welfare of Bayelsans rather than political zoning.
MacIver said Bayelsa needs leadership focused on effective governance and the development of the state, stressing that the interests and wellbeing of residents should remain a priority.
As part of his proposed contribution towards rebuilding and strengthening the PDP in Bayelsa, MacIver also pledged to donate ₦70 million monthly to the party, beginning from August 2026. If sustained for 12 months, the commitment would amount to ₦840 million.
His declaration adds another name to the emerging race for the PDP governorship ticket as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 Bayelsa governorship election.
The development is expected to intensify discussions within the PDP as aspirants position themselves for the party’s ticket and campaign for support across the state.
