2027: G100 Will Back One Candidate Against Tinubu — Lukman

Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the G100 coalition is working towards presenting a single opposition candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu, former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has said.

Lukman disclosed this during an interview on Trust TV’s 30 Minutes, where he discussed ongoing efforts to unite opposition political forces ahead of the election.

According to him, the coalition is focused on reducing the fragmentation within the opposition by encouraging political leaders and groups to work together and ultimately support one candidate.

He said the objective is to give the opposition a stronger chance of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the polls.

Lukman explained that the G100 initiative is not about promoting the personal ambition of any particular politician but about creating a platform capable of producing a candidate with broad acceptability among opposition stakeholders.

He noted that prominent opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, are among those whose political interests could become part of the ongoing discussions.

The former APC chieftain said the coalition would continue consultations before reaching a final decision on its preferred candidate, stressing that the process must be based on consensus and electability.

The development comes amid increasing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition parties and political groups exploring possible alliances to prevent the opposition vote from being divided.

Lukman expressed optimism that the ongoing consultations would eventually produce a united political force capable of mounting a strong challenge to Tinubu’s re-election bid
