APC Beats INEC Deadline, Uploads All Candidates For 2027 Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has completed the electronic submission of its candidates for all elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections, meeting the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline ahead of schedule.

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, disclosed this on Sunday, saying the party completed the process before INEC’s original deadline of August 8, 2026.

According to Yilwatda, the submission covered candidates contesting positions ranging from the State Houses of Assembly to the presidential election across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

He described the early completion of the exercise as evidence of the party’s organisational capacity, coordination and preparedness for the 2027 elections.

INEC had initially set August 8 as the deadline for political parties to upload their candidates through its electronic portal. The commission subsequently extended the deadline by three days to August 11 following appeals from parties that were yet to complete their submissions.

Yilwatda said the process involved the nomination, documentation, verification and electronic submission of thousands of candidates, requiring coordination between the APC national secretariat, state chapters, aspirants and election management teams.

He argued that political parties should be assessed not only by their campaign promises but also by their ability to organise their internal structures and comply with electoral requirements.

The APC chairman said completing the exercise ahead of the original deadline would allow the party to concentrate on other aspects of its preparations, including campaign coordination, grassroots mobilisation, policy communication and reconciliation among party members.

He also commended members of the National Working Committee, state party leadership, candidates and other officials who participated in the submission process.

With its candidate-upload exercise completed, the APC is expected to intensify preparations for the 2027 elections as opposition parties continue their own nomination and submission processes.

The development comes as political parties across the country strengthen their structures and strategise for what is expected to be a highly contested 2027 general election.
