A political commentator, Imran Wakili, has sparked reactions after making a strong prediction about President Bola Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 presidential election, particularly in Osun State.
Wakili, while discussing the political outlook ahead of the next general election, expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure victory in Osun, claiming that the President’s political strength and support base would play a major role in determining the outcome.
He argued that the opposition would face a difficult challenge in trying to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that Tinubu’s influence within the political landscape remains significant.
The comments have generated debate among political observers, with supporters of the APC viewing the statement as a reflection of the party’s growing confidence ahead of 2027, while opposition supporters have challenged such predictions, insisting that election outcomes should be determined by voters at the polls.
Political activities ahead of the 2027 elections have continued to intensify, with parties building structures, forming alliances and preparing for nationwide campaigns. The APC has already moved ahead with preparations for its presidential ticket, while opposition groups continue consultations.
Observers note that Osun remains an important political battleground because of its strategic position in the South-West and its history of competitive elections.
However, electoral officials have maintained that the final decision rests with voters and the electoral process. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has outlined the constitutional process and timetable framework for the 2027 general elections.
As political campaigns gradually take shape, statements from key actors and commentators are expected to continue generating discussions over the strength of political parties and candidates ahead of the 2027 contest.
