The political atmosphere ahead of the Osun State governorship election has intensified following a response from the camp of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma to comments made by Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
Davido had appealed to Governor Uzodimma ahead of the Osun governorship election, where Uzodimma is serving as chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Campaign Council for the poll.
Reacting to the development, Uzodimma’s spokesperson, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, said the appeal was misplaced, arguing that the outcome of the election would ultimately be decided by voters in Osun State.
The spokesman maintained that Governor Uzodimma’s role was to lead the APC campaign team and support the party’s candidate, adding that the governor remained committed to a peaceful and credible electoral process.
The statement also advised Davido to focus on supporting his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking another term, rather than appealing to Uzodimma over the election.
The exchange has added more attention to the growing political contest in Osun State, where major parties are intensifying their campaigns ahead of the governorship election.
Political observers say the involvement of high-profile personalities in election conversations reflects the increasing influence of public figures in Nigeria’s political space.
As the election approaches, parties and their supporters are expected to continue mobilising voters while promoting their candidates and political messages.
