Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, has challenged former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi to make public the details of an alleged private conversation they had concerning former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Amaechi, who is currently the vice presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), had referred to the conversation during an interview with Channels Television, saying Bwala should remember discussions they held before his position on the current administration changed.
The former Rivers State governor, however, declined to reveal the content of the conversation, explaining that the discussion was confidential and should remain private.
Reacting to Amaechi’s comments, Bwala took to his official X account on Wednesday, asking the former governor to share the conversation publicly if he believed it was necessary.
Bwala said he was aware of an interview where Amaechi mentioned that he had reached out to him after his departure from Atiku Abubakar’s camp. According to him, since Amaechi had already referenced the discussion publicly, he was granting him permission to disclose the details to Nigerians.
Meanwhile, Amaechi has continued to criticise the administration of President Tinubu, particularly amid ongoing discussions surrounding the President’s educational records.
The former Rivers State governor said his own academic background was easily verifiable, arguing that there were numerous individuals who could confirm his educational journey from his early years through university.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Amaechi said he did not need to personally provide extensive explanations about his academic qualifications because former classmates from different stages of his education could attest to his history.
He stated that people who attended primary school, secondary school and university with him were available to confirm his claims. Amaechi mentioned that he still had contacts with former classmates, including individuals who studied alongside him at the University of Port Harcourt.
The former minister insisted that his academic records and educational experiences were not difficult to verify, adding that anyone interested could seek confirmation from those who shared classrooms with him.
His comments came amid renewed public discussions over documents submitted by President Tinubu to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Beyond the issue of academic records, Amaechi also addressed the controversy involving the Catholic Church and comments made by Cardinal John Onaiyekan, the Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja.
The former governor appealed to President Tinubu and members of his administration to demonstrate greater respect toward Christianity, the Catholic Church and its leaders.
Amaechi’s remarks followed criticism directed at Cardinal Onaiyekan after he spoke about a meeting between President Tinubu and members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria.
He urged government officials to avoid statements or actions that could be interpreted as disrespectful toward religious leaders, stressing the importance of maintaining respect for faith institutions and their representatives.
Amaechi maintained that dialogue and mutual respect between government officials and religious authorities were necessary for national unity and peaceful engagement.
