A prominent member of the (PDP),Peoples Democratic Party Chief Bode George, has announced his intention to take legal action against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over allegations made against him concerning the ownership and source of funds used to acquire his Abuja residence.
The controversy began after Wike, during a media interaction in Abuja, questioned the origin of funds used to purchase the Maitama property belonging to the PDP chieftain. The FCT Minister alleged that the house was connected to financial resources from Rivers State, demanding an explanation from George over how the property was acquired.
Reacting to the claim, Bode George appeared on TVC News on Wednesday night, where he strongly denied the allegation and dismissed Wike’s remarks as baseless.
The elder statesman insisted that the property was legitimately acquired and questioned the basis of linking his personal assets to funds belonging to Rivers State.
George stated that he would pursue the matter through legal channels, saying he was prepared to seek redress in court over what he described as an unfounded accusation.
He maintained that he had no connection with Rivers State government funds and accused Wike of making irresponsible statements without evidence to support his claims.
The PDP leader also criticized the FCT Minister’s comments, describing them as disrespectful and inappropriate, while insisting that public figures should be careful with the allegations they make against others.
George further made remarks about Wike’s personal background, claiming that the minister had experienced disagreements with his family in the past.
According to him, Nigerians should investigate the circumstances surrounding Wike’s relationship with his late father, adding that such matters reflected poorly on the minister’s character.
“In Africa, family relationships and respect for one’s parents carry significant importance,” George argued, while questioning Wike’s actions and statements.
The PDP chieftain accused the FCT Minister of making false claims and insisted that the Abuja property in question was not built with government resources.
He explained that he purchased the house himself rather than constructing it, emphasizing that the transaction was a private matter unrelated to any state government funding.
George questioned why he would have access to Rivers State funds, noting that he had never held office in the state or had any official responsibility that would give him control over its finances.
He also accused Wike of making comparisons that were unfair, arguing that his own career and public service record were separate from the allegations being raised.
The dispute between both political figures has generated reactions, with observers watching closely as the disagreement between the PDP chieftain and the FCT Minister continues.
While Wike has maintained his position regarding the need for accountability and transparency among public figures, Bode George has insisted that the allegations against him are false and damaging to his reputation.
The PDP leader’s decision to seek legal action could further escalate the exchange between the two politicians, as both sides continue to defend their positions on the matter.
