Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala-Usman, has quietly remarried in a private ceremony held in Zaria, Kaduna State. The well-attended yet low-profile nuptials took place on Thursday, January 8, 2026, with close family and a few associates present.

According to reports, Bala-Usman, a respected public servant and former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), exchanged vows with Alhaji Shehu Dikko in a ceremony held at the residence of her late father, Professor Yusuf Bala Usman. The setting was described as serene and family-centred, reflecting the couple’s desire for privacy on this important personal milestone.

The bride, 50, is known for her professionalism, integrity and preference for keeping her personal life out of the public spotlight despite her prominent roles in governance and policy reform. Her decision to hold the wedding quietly was consistent with her past approach to personal matters.

Born on January 2, 1976, Hadiza Bala-Usman hails from a distinguished academic family and has carved a notable career in both public administration and civil society. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a master’s degree in development studies from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom.

Before entering government service, Bala-Usman was active in public sector reform and civic engagement, demonstrating a commitment to transparency and effective governance. She once served as Chief of Staff to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, where she played a central role in policy planning and implementation.

In July 2016, she was appointed Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, becoming the first woman to lead the organisation. During her tenure, she was recognised for efforts to modernise operations and strengthen port efficiency, a period that brought her significant public acclaim and stirred debate about institutional reforms.

After her tenure at the NPA ended in 2021, Bala-Usman continued to influence public policy and governance, eventually being appointed in 2023 as Special Adviser on Policy Coordination by President Tinubu. In this role, she has been central to the administration’s policy planning and implementation efforts, often serving as a key voice on strategic national initiatives.

Her first marriage was to economist Tanimu Yakubu Kurfi, who served as Chief Economic Adviser to the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. That union produced two children. Details about her former marriage and family life have historically been kept discreet, reflecting her longstanding practice of maintaining clear boundaries between her public role and private life.

The new marriage to Alhaji Shehu Dikko marks an important personal chapter for Bala-Usman, garnering warm wishes from close associates who respect her contributions to governance and public service. Although she has not publicly commented on the ceremony, the announcement of her remarriage is already drawing congratulatory messages from figures in political, business and civil society circles.

As she embarks on this new journey, Bala-Usman’s experience and stature in national affairs are likely to continue shaping her role as both a public leader and private individual, balancing responsibilities across both spheres with the same composure and dedication she has shown throughout her career.
