The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will record a decisive win in the 2027 general elections, the party’s National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda declared on Sunday, expressing strong conviction in his party’s prospects as Nigeria’s political landscape inches closer to the next electoral cycle.
Yilwatda made the pronouncement while receiving the leadership of Women Leaders Support Advancement — a political advocacy group promoting greater participation of women in governance — at a meeting held in Abuja.
“We are fully prepared for the future, and by the grace of God, the APC will win convincingly in 2027,” Yilwatda said, underlining what he described as growing national acceptance of the administration of Bola Tinubu.
He attributed the anticipated success to the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of the Tinubu administration, contending that its policies have broadened political participation — especially for women and youths — and responded to Nigerians’ demand for inclusive leadership.
According to Yilwatda, the current leadership is committed to leveraging that agenda to mobilise support across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Speaking to the visiting women’s group, he urged them to remain consistent in working at grassroots levels, saying: “Women remain the backbone of political mobilisation, and your role is critical to our success.”
The women’s delegation, for its part, pledged to mobilise women across the country, showing their readiness to support the APC ahead of the next election. The group’s leadership — including founder Deborah Hornecker and secretary Zainab Musa — emphasised their commitment to expand the presence of women in governance and rally support for the APC’s agenda nationwide.
Yilwatda’s declaration comes as the APC intensifies internal consultations ahead of its National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings, now scheduled for December 18 and 19 at the Presidential Villa. The party says this preparatory work is part of broader strategic planning for the 2027 elections.
Under his leadership, the APC has already publicly declared that 2027 is a “done deal.” Upon assuming office earlier in 2025, Yilwatda promised to reposition the party, rebuild its structures, and expand its membership base.
He has underscored the need for unity and collective responsibility among party leaders, describing the National Working Committee as “mechanics” set to steer the party toward what he calls a bright future for Nigerians.
Supporters within the party appear to share his optimism. Some believe that, under Yilwatda, APC is poised to achieve group victories across gubernatorial, senate, national and state assembly levels in the polls to come.
Yet, Yilwatda’s bold predictions raise several questions as the nation edges toward a high-stakes political contest. Observers note that the real measure of the party’s confidence will rest not on declarations but on its ability to deliver on policy promises, manage internal cohesion, and respond to the growing economic and social pressures confronting many Nigerians.
As the clock ticks toward 2027, all eyes will be on how the APC formalises its strategy — and whether it can convert its declarations into votes.
