The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally issued certificates of expulsion to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and 10 other members earlier removed from the party.
The PDP National Chairman, Tanimu Turaki, confirmed the development while addressing journalists after the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja.
Among those expelled are the embattled National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; National Legal Adviser, Kamarudeen Ajibade; and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose. Others include Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah Nnanna, George Turna and Chief Dan Orbih — all sanctioned during the party’s national convention in Lagos.
Turaki explained that the original copies of the certificates have been dispatched via courier to the affected individuals, serving as official proof of their expulsion.
He noted that the decision was also guided by the Nigerian legal framework, which prohibits dual party membership.
“Now that they are no longer members of our party, and since the National Convention — the highest decision-making body — has expelled them, we decided to issue formal certificates of expulsion. This allows them to register with any other political party without the accusation of holding dual membership,” he said.
Turaki urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services, and other relevant agencies to take note of the development.
He also warned the public to be cautious in political dealings with the expelled members, stressing:
“Anyone who chooses to do business with them does so at his or her own risk. They are no longer members of the PDP.”
Speaking further, the chairman said the NWC reviewed several court cases involving the party, particularly those related to the “unlawful and illegal” sealing of the PDP National Secretariat, Legacy House, and Wadata Plaza. He stated that legal counsel had assured the party that it had a strong case.
Turaki reaffirmed the NWC’s readiness to reposition the PDP as a formidable opposition force, adding that the party was committed to offering Nigerians a credible political alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
