Former Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Dr Lucky Yargwa, has officially defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing the APC’s failure to address Nigerians’ socio-economic and political challenges.
Speaking exclusively, Dr Yargwa said his decision was motivated by what he described as the Tinubu administration’s inability to deliver meaningful change. “Nigerians are experiencing growing hardship, insecurity, and poverty,” he stated. “While I served APC diligently, contributing notably as co-chairman of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s campaign in Wamba and co-director of youth mobilisation at the state level, the party has now lost direction, is deeply factionalised, and stifles critical voices.”
Addressing questions about his loyalty to Governor Sule, whom he respects greatly, Yargwa emphasized that supporting a mentor does not mean endorsing a party failing the people. “Repeated consultations reveal that many share my concerns: APC is not delivering the change Nigerians need,” he said.
On his choice of ADC, Dr Yargwa noted the party’s long-standing commitment to unity, integrity, and genuine participation. “ADC, nearly two decades old, allows new entrants to contribute meaningfully. Unlike APC, hijacked by a select few, ADC provides a platform for real reform and increasing engagement even from sitting state officials,” he explained.
Responding to critics who say defections destabilize parties, he stressed that ADC is structurally and ideologically distinct. “I am joining ADC not for personal opportunity but to work with others for national reform. The party is rooted in stability and inclusiveness,” he added.
Dr Yargwa revealed that he left APC about three months ago and described his transition to ADC as smooth. He affirmed his focus on grassroots mobilisation to build consensus and support ahead of the 2027 elections.
He also highlighted collaboration with national opposition figures, including Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, as essential for delivering meaningful governance reforms. “The more principled voices we unite across parties and regions, the better our chances for national development,” he said.
Regarding Nasarawa politics, Dr Yargwa described his defection as a turning point. He said ADC provides citizens with a platform to demand accountable leadership and build a credible reformist alternative. He praised Barrister Mohammed, his ADC partner in Nasarawa, for his governance experience and commitment to inclusive development.
To skeptical voters, Dr Yargwa urged courage and active participation: “ADC is not just a new party; it is an avenue for citizens to reclaim their future. This is the time to counteract APC’s record of hardship and insecurity.”
He concluded with a call to Nigerian youths and voters: “Embrace change. Register, mobilise, and vote for a future that prioritizes governance, security, and sustainable development. Redefining Nigeria and Nasarawa cannot wait.”
