When it comes to combining financial discipline with public service excellence, few names resonate as strongly as Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji — a banker, technocrat, entrepreneur, and administrator whose leadership footprint spans from Osun State’s finance ministry to the corridors of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
Born on November 17, 1965, in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, Oyebamiji’s story is one of steady progress built on hard work, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
He began his education at A.D.C. Primary School, Oke-Ada, Ikire (1971–1977), then proceeded to Ayedaade Grammar School, Ikire, where he obtained his Secondary School Leaving Certificate in 1982. His academic brilliance earned him several merit awards during his early years.
Pursuing his passion for finance, he attended The Polytechnic, Ibadan, earning a Higher National Diploma in Banking and Finance (1987), followed by a Master’s in Public Administration from Lagos State University (1997) and an MBA from the University of Ado-Ekiti (2004).
Oyebamiji began his professional career at Wema Bank Plc in 1987, rising rapidly through the ranks due to his diligence and performance. He later served at Trans International Bank Plc, where he became Head of Lagos Region by 2003, and subsequently at Enterprise Bank Ltd, Victoria Island, Lagos, as Head of Retail Business.
Across two decades in banking, he earned multiple industry recognitions, including Most Profitable Manager of the Year (Trans International Bank, 2004) and Outstanding Deposit Performance Award (Spring Bank, 2007).
In 2012, his reputation for managerial excellence attracted the Osun State Government, which appointed him Managing Director/CEO of the Osun State Investment Company Limited (now Omoluabi Holdings). Under his leadership, the company’s valuation grew from about ₦300 million to ₦3 billion in five years.
His record performance earned him elevation to Commissioner for Finance, Osun State, in 2017. During his eight-year tenure, he strengthened the state’s financial framework, promoted transparency, and ensured prudent budget management.
Deeply rooted in community service, Oyebamiji remains an active member of the Destiny Club, Ikire Businessmen Club, and the Ikire Progressive Union. His contributions to community development earned him the Ikire Day Award of Excellence in 2010 and 2018, and the Akire of Ikire Land, Oba Olatunde Lambe Loyé III, conferred on him the chieftaincy title of Asiwaju of Ikire in January 2020.
In recognition of his administrative capacity, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appointed him Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NIWA in October 2023. Since assuming office, Oyebamiji has focused on reforming Nigeria’s inland waterways to enhance transportation, trade, and logistics efficiency. His leadership emphasizes accountability, innovation, and sustainable infrastructure development.
Beyond public service, he is a successful entrepreneur — the Chairman of White Green Farms, a large-scale agricultural venture over 25 years old, contributing significantly to food production and rural employment in Osun State.
Oyebamiji is a Fellow of several professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Institute of Chartered Economists of Nigeria (ICEN), and the Association of Enterprise Risk Management Professionals (AERMP). He has also attended international executive courses in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Turkey, focusing on corporate governance, risk management, and leadership.
Popularly known in political circles as AMBO — derived from Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji — he is a committed member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a grassroots mobilizer often mentioned among the party’s leading gubernatorial aspirants in Osun State.
Calm, visionary, and reform-driven, Bola Oyebamiji’s journey from the banking halls to NIWA’s top office stands as a testament to resilience, competence, and the power of disciplined leadership in public service.
