The aftermath of the Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Season 10 finale has taken a dramatic turn following allegations made by Ossai Ovie Success, an aide to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who claimed that one of the show’s finalists, Dede Ashiogwu, was “robbed” of her rightful victory. The claim has since sparked widespread reactions across social media, prompting the season’s winner, Imisi, to publicly address and expose what she called the truth behind the so-called “robbery” story.
Shortly after the BBNaija grand finale, Ossai Ovie Success took to social media to allege that the outcome of the show was manipulated to favour Imisi, insisting that Dede should have emerged as the true winner. According to him, the organizers deliberately ensured that Dede did not win because a contestant from Delta State, Kellyrae, had already won the previous season. In his words, “Dede was robbed by BBNaija organizers because Delta boy Kellyrae won last year. I will be suing Big Brother Naija on behalf of Dede because the voting was rigged.” The aide’s statement quickly went viral, attracting both support and backlash from fans of the two contestants as well as from the wider BBNaija community.
The allegation, which questioned the credibility of one of Nigeria’s biggest reality shows, immediately drew reactions from viewers who demanded evidence of the alleged rigging. Ossai, however, did not provide any concrete proof of his claim, relying instead on what he described as “obvious bias” against contestants from Delta State. His remarks were seen by many as politically motivated and an attempt to regionalize the entertainment competition. Despite the noise, the BBNaija organizers maintained that the voting process was transparent, and they released a detailed voting chart showing how viewers voted for each finalist. The chart revealed a significant margin between Imisi, who topped the votes, and Dede, who came second.
Responding to the controversy, Dede herself publicly distanced from the claims of robbery and praised Imisi’s win as legitimate. During the prize presentation ceremony held in Lagos, Dede said, “I don’t think it had anything to do with region. It’s about votes — she got the highest votes and she won. So she deserves it.” She also expressed gratitude to her fans and supporters, stating that her focus now would be on developing her career in entertainment rather than getting entangled in political or legal drama. Her statement effectively contradicted the narrative being pushed by Ossai, suggesting that the aide’s comments did not represent her personal views.
Imisi, on her part, expressed disappointment over the allegations but maintained that the truth was already visible to anyone willing to look. According to her, the voting was fair and open, and she emerged victorious purely based on popular support. “People voted. Nigerians saw it. There’s no robbery here,” she reportedly told journalists. Her management team also emphasized that the voting chart and the transparency measures introduced by the organizers were enough to dismiss any claims of rigging or bias.
Analysts say that while Ossai’s allegations have generated temporary controversy, they lack the kind of evidence required to support a legal challenge. Entertainment lawyers note that suing a reality show organizer over voting outcomes is a difficult and often futile process unless there is concrete proof of fraud or contractual breach. Most Nigerian reality shows, including BBNaija, operate under clearly defined terms and conditions that give the producers editorial discretion over the show’s format and results, provided the public voting system is not tampered with.
The controversy has nonetheless reignited debates about transparency and regional bias in national competitions. Some social commentators argue that Ossai’s comments reflect a deeper issue of political interference in entertainment and a growing tendency to politicize pop culture outcomes. Others believe the aide’s outburst may have been a misguided attempt to defend his state’s pride rather than a genuine pursuit of justice.
As things stand, there is no evidence of any formal legal action filed by Ossai or Dede against the BBNaija organizers. Imisi’s victory remains officially recognized, and Dede herself appears content with the outcome. The show’s producers have not issued further comments beyond reaffirming the integrity of their voting process. For now, the so-called “robbery story” seems to be more of a social media drama than a factual controversy.
In the court of public opinion, however, the debate continues. While Ossai’s accusation may have stirred doubts among some fans, Imisi’s calm and confident response — coupled with Dede’s own rejection of the claims — has gone a long way in exposing the truth behind the allegations. Unless new evidence emerges, it appears that the “robbery” narrative has little more than political noise behind it, while Imisi’s win stands as a fair reflection of the viewers’ choice in one of Nigeria’s most-watched reality shows.
