Ikoyi Club 1938’s Ladies’ Golf Section has introduced the logo for its golden jubilee tournament, signaling the start of festivities planned for November.
The championship, scheduled for November 12–15, 2025, carries the theme “Go Beyond – Golf and Golfing.” Organisers explained that the slogan reflects how golf transcends sport—highlighting its influence on lifestyle, environmental preservation, biodiversity, and the cultivation of discipline, wellness, and a positive outlook.
At the event, pioneer member and former ladies’ captain, Mrs. Iyabo Attah, shared personal memories of her journey in the sport and reflected on how both the tournament and the section have evolved over the past five decades.
“It is my desire, therefore, to see that more women have taken up the game of Golf and also get their children/wards to also learn the sport,” she said.
This year’s ladies’ captain, Mrs. Peggy Onwu, described the unveiling as a significant moment. “This unveiling of the open tournament logo is a milestone, given that it is 50 years of commitment, skills development and building connections with ladies across Africa and beyond,” she said.
The ceremony also featured remarks from Business Day Publisher, Mr. Frank Aigbogun, who chaired the logo design review. He praised the section for achieving such a remarkable milestone.
“You know, I’ve been around golf long enough, the landscape has changed dramatically, and much of that change started right here with pioneers like Mrs Iyabo Attah, who refused to accept that golf was just a man’s game. The ladies who took part in this tournament 50 years ago – they weren’t just playing golf. They were making a statement. They were building something that would outlast them. And look around today – their vision has become reality,” Aigbogun said.
Price Waterhouse was also recognised as a partner of the 50th anniversary tournament. Its Consulting and Risk Services Leader, Mr. Femi Osinubi, explained that the partnership reflects the firm’s commitment to gender equality and environmental sustainability as part of its corporate social responsibility.
A highlight of the celebration was the logo design competition, which saw entries from more than 18 secondary schools in Lagos. Wahab Folawiyo Senior High School clinched the top spot, ahead of GreenSpring Secondary School and Command Secondary School, Bonny Camp.
The winning schools received cash prizes of ₦100,000, ₦70,000, and ₦50,000 respectively, along with brand-new computers.
